Mission
The Institute for Political Participation (IPP) informs citizens about democratic decision-making processes and enables them to actively participate in these processes. In doing so, it especially concerns itself with the participation of groups who are underrepresented in the political arena. The IPP focuses its attention on local, national and European politics and elections.
Democracy can flourish only when ordinary citizens are actively involved in politics and society. This involvement begins when citizens cast their votes in an election. But it is also important that citizens from all walks of life participate in the public debate and that they know how they can exert their influence. To do so, they need to be knowledgeable about the constitutional state, politics and society. The IPP disseminates accessible information via websites, brochures and other publications, produces teaching material and organises ‘political excursions’ for schools. In addition, the IPP also offers courses and training programmes and it organises debates.
